This is a baby blanket I made for a co-worker. It is made with baby soft yarn and a j hook. kinda loose but wonderfully soft for throwing over baby. I also finished a pink blanket in kooky yarn (red heart) but it's in the car and we are having one hell of a nor'easter right now so... pictures will have to be later...

Today, Sunday, is usually my shopping day, and thus I usually miss the football games. Due to the storm I am home to watch. Go Pats!! Write more later.

Prelude to turkey

I work at a busy restaurant, in the accounting office. We are closed two day a year, Thanksgiving and Christmas. As a divorced single parent this has made the holidays rather strained at best. I have to try to get the ex to work his schedule around mine which isn't always possible. This year we haven't even heard from him and he lives a couple of towns away. No loss in my opinion.

The kids and I are having a small turkey with all the fixings tomorrow. Tonight we are gonna have a roast that will have cooked in the crock pot all day. Makes life easier when you leave the house at 7:30 in the morning and most days don't get back until 7:30 in the evening. I hope all have a happy Thanksgiving and remember that we have a lot to be thankful for.

that was a bust

So Foliage is over, I am still alive. Things at work have slowed down again and I have taken up smoking again. So much for that idea. I am tired and it is late. I will try to catch everyone up again tomorrow night on what is going on in my sad little life.

crochet as a quitting technique

I have decided to quit smoking...again.

I have had three cigarettes today and will try to keep you updated on my progress. I am crocheting up a storm to try to keep my hands busy, and sucking on lollipops to keep the oral fixation down to a minimum. I have tried to quit cold turkey before and succeeded. The last time I went without for two years, after ex had a burst appendix and was forced to quit. He almost didn't come out of the anesthesia because of the black in his lungs. I only started again because he did. At the time we lived in a small trailer and when he smoked inside I might as well have been smoking too. (No ventilation there!!) Now it's my house, my rules, my decision. I signed up with the Quit.net online. they give you tips and tricks, as well as support. My best friend is quitting too. She is going to be my best support because we used to take smoke breaks together at work. I think I need all the help I can get. Back to my crochet.

I am working on a sweater for Brandi, a friend of my daughter. It is pink and done in the diagonal box stitch. I am kinda making it up as I go. Kinda following the design in one of my groups crochet alongs. I will post the link when I find it. It is a rough imimation because the cardigan is done in motifs and mine is done in larger blocks. If I can finish it I will post a pic.

I am also doing a scrap LB homespun afghan for my kingsize bed and a LB homespun round ripple for My daughter's MIL (kinda). A blue/white baby grannie for a coworker, a pink rr for a sister of a coworker. And of course PIG, the blankets for two of a friend's kids. I think today I will work on the LB Homespun RR. It is the easiest to carry out to the living room right now. Will send pics later.

More on the WIP Front...

I have been working on a round ripple, too. Last night I worked on it some before crawling into the blankets to stare at the ceiling in my room. It is made with Lion Brand Homespun. Three different colors, Mardi gras, Honalulu, and Calypso. The picture, if I can include it, was taken when it was first begun. I set it aside for quite a while to work on other projects (including replacing the carpet in my dining room with vinyl flooring). I now have about 17 rounds on it. Two mardi gras, two calypso, two mardi gras two honalulu, two mardi gras etc...
I love Homespun. I know other have had problems with it, seeing stitches can be difficult, but I love it. This one is for my daughter's boyfriend's mother (does that make sense?). I have a date tonight so I will not be doing much crocheting tonight.

How To Start??

I have not had time to crochet very much of late. I have numerous projects in the WIP pile, some will maybe go to the PIG Pile or be Frogged to make something else. I have started this blog to try to organize my mind and my WIP pile, somewhat.

Summer is Vacation time; for my Staff. I haven't taken a full week for three years. I work as a Restaurant Accountant, mostly. I have two staff members who work under me. I cover their positions as well as doing mine when they go on Vacation. This leaves little time to think or to relax when I get home. I also have two teenagers who, while on vacation, seem to need more attention and care, than when they are at school. I will quit whining now but you can see my crochet time is minimal in the summer.

I am working on two baby blankets. One pink and green the other one in blue and white.
